Great update!

(-3)

Hey man can you submit this game to this gamejam?

https://itch.io/jam/40-years-game-jam

(+1)

Really good game, quite fun to play

(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the game! Let me know if you have any suggestions 😃

(+1)

With pleasure !

I will play again sometimes soon and if I have any I’ll let you know 👌

(+1)

Heyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Very cute game, very good looking.
The Vulcano stuff forces you to not go AFK even for a second, not even to drink water - YOU GOTTA STAY FOCUSED, but it is a fun addition, although a bit too intense for my liking.

The game seems to evolve a bit slow, but I guess this is meant to be a relaxing game(besides having a vulcano explode every 30 seconds).

It was nice over all! Keep up the good work!

Thanks! Glad to hear 😁

The Volcano definitely makes things less relaxing haha

(+2)

Very fun game, a bit rng, and not enough strategy for repeatability in my eyes, but I had fun playing it a few times. GG

Awesome! And great score.

I definitely want to add deck building, new types of cards (ability cards, Gods' miracles, etc), board-expanding mechanics and more.

Let me know if you have any thoughts on how to improve the game!

(+2)

I'm glad you asked, I have several Ideas.

1. Make buildings that can affect other buildings, so that everything isn't just production, an example of this would be roads, you could make them increase the gold gather rate or amount of gold per each tile touching it (you already have the is touching feature for the fire), you could make other version of this I"m sure, but the road makes the most sense, also you could make dirt and paved road, making a upgraded version of it.

2. Make it less rng, add a way to make multipole  strategys work, the way I recommenced to do this, is introduce a tech tree, and a market. You don't have to remove rng, but it would be nice to have less, this brings me to the next idea.

3. make it bigger, the map size, possible scaling aswell, I think a good niche to hit, would be a fast paced city builder. Right now, it doesn't matter much where you place things, I think you should change this, make it so that you have to place things in a somewhat ordly fashion or get better results, for example, you could make a wonder building of each type, and have it boast production of that type I think you should have a tech tree that unlocks buildings and, I don't have a better word for it, but methods, like, switching how the eco works for that playthrough, or enabling certan paths. (sorry for bad explanation here). Another idea to make different stratagys work, is add off to the side buildings, optional ones, that work for certain builds, but arn't useful for others. So that there isn't always one playthrough, sometimes you go for more wood, or overdose on stone for a reason, or gold maybe.

4. Another idea, add water buildings.

5.  Another idea, and a placeablity system, so that you can only place buildings within a distance of other buildings, or maybe just only tiles you've explored (if you had a fog of war mecanic, but you might have issues with the fireballs for that) - The reason to add this would be for a statagy factor, now you have to think where you place things, if you combine this with my other ideas of buildings buffing others, or producing less if surrounded by certain ones (think the factory buildings in the og sim city, if you put house in near factorys, there value goes down), If you combine this, and add more tiles, it could be much faster paced and even competitive.

6. Longer, add a way to go long play, or just make the timer longer, the idea would be, that you can beat the game, possibly through making a really expensive wonder, and filling all of the tiles (plus upgrading them and optimizing it) would be very satisfying.

7. More uses for money.

8. Pop becomes useless after 4ish houses.

9. I don't know so much about the fireballs, clicking on them is somewhat annoying, I think it would be nicer if you have a lava system, that way you have to divert it from the town with walls maybe (could keep fireballs as an event maybe, but its not important enough as is.

10. More stone buildings, we only have one right now.

11. rework card system, possible keep rng, but make the cards more avaliable, just, more cards, I ran out of things to build so often, I would just be taking whatever I can get, make cards an almost constant thing to get, with lower level buildings easy to ger, people shouldn't be idle for too long, currently, they have to stay there, but are inactive around 70% of the time due to waiting.

12. Things work diffrently at night? mabye?

13. Title screen.

14. Saves.

15. Game modes.

16.  High scores or otherwise a way to compete with others..

I had some more ideas, but I'm forgetting them now, I recomend you look at the game freeciv, it has some of the same aspects as your game, and I think you could get many ideas of things to add if you take and modify some of their features.

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback!

You have some great points. I like the idea of having to place buildings strategically, as well as a proximity-build limit, it's something I thought about too, but haven't explored yet.

I'm adding your suggestions to the list, will definitely consider those! 🍻

(+1)

Made it to just over 500 Faith before the final Cataclism came.

Awesome! That last delay is quite tricky to get.

(+1)

enjoyed the game very much!

got a very good score and would love if the game was a bit longer or unlocked extra space and time for replay when full delay unlocked

Awesome score! Definitely considering making the game longer and with more content.

(+2)

I LOVE the new update! Had a blast playing this game again.
I thought statues counted as rare buildings, but I guess that's not the case. Is this intended?

I played a bit suboptimally this time, I missed a couple of buildings from early game fortunas due to my hand being full, and maybe I should've let some lands get charred, so I can restore them for bonus points at the end, since I had a lot of money. I also couldn't reach the last delay, 900 faith is a LOT. Is it even possible?

P.S. I love the fact that you can sacrifice people for faith.

Here's my humble town moments before its doom:

(+1)

Awesome to hear you enjoyed the update!

Statues are no longer rare tier since I wanted there to be at least one non rare building for each resource type.

900 delay is tough but definitely possible!

(+3)

New update 1.2 Released! Comments below this are for 1.1 and below. If you find any bugs or issues, please let me know!🍻

Congratulations on the release of the new version!   It's a big change, but definitely for the better, in my opinion.

Game is cool but it was game over for me before i got the chance to place anything. The volcano destroyed all i have before i made enough to build. Implement a starting amount of resources so this does not happen. But it looks amazing tho.

(+1)

You can extinguish fires by clicking on them.

I added a tutorial for that in the upcoming update that will be released soon.
I also made it easier to place the first building.

🍻

(+2)

Lol i didn't see that. Great then. 10/10

No worries, that's on me for having neglected to tutorialize that at first.

(+1)

The biggest flaw of this game is the lategame. Once your production of resources is insane, you basicly just wait for new cards, and place them wherever is space.

Im not sure how to solve that, there just isnt a goal after getting infinite resources

Thanks for the feedback! I'm definitely aware of this issue. I'm actually working on an update that adds more content and more things to do with the resources, but it doesn't solve this problem completely. I hope to add even more stuff in the future!

In this update, for example, there's a new one-of-a-kind wonder type building that costs a ton of resources to buy and to build, and it gives a lot of score. I also added an option to convert resources.

(+1)

Fun game, i found a few things that are a bit weird (unsure if they are intended)

When a fishing hut burns down, it turns into ash, removing the water tile.

Placing the statue on hills, removed the hills and replaced it with grassland

(2 edits)

the texture of the fishing hut only works, when placing it below a tile. you can replicate it, by filling the middle of the river on the river map with huts

I'll look into those, thanks

(+1)

Super jeu ! J'adore le design et le gameplay ! J'espère qu'il y aura d'autres bâtiments et une carte qui évolue pourquoi pas ?

Hi, I don't speak French but I used google translate :)

The new upcoming update adds more buildings. I do hope to add a map-expanding feature in the future.

Glad you enjoyed the game!

(+1)

Nice score!

(+1)

When I understand how to play - it was fun. Just did not like the end. But idea of game play is really good :)

(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the game! Sorry for burning down your city 😅

(+1)

Hello would love to try the game but I'm on Linux with a arm64 processor. So I can't play the game :(. But I would love to try it, I don't how hard it would be to make a arm64 packageInstallation :)

I'll look into that!

Is the HTML5 not working for you?

(+1)

I think it's working as intended. I think so, Im unsure of what issue should there be,but the game did launch and I was able to click on tiles and select a tile each day. I didnt test it much, but yes its indeed testable! :)

Potential Bug Report:
When at the Free Card window at day end, it's possible to click the Faith Shop button and lose your free cards entirely.

Thanks for reporting. Already fixed for the upcoming update!

(+1)

Aborted(Stack overflow! Stack cookie has been overwritten at 0x004d4b60, expected hex dwords 0x89BACDFE and 0x2135467, but received 0xbd3d5101 0xbd3a60ea)

(1 edit)

Thanks for reporting! I'm aware of this issue and will fix it in the upcoming update :)

(+1)

My score.

(+1)

It would be really cool if neighbouring tiles could offer bonuses or penalties to each other, creating some more depth in play and strategy.
Overall, a pleasant little builder with an interesting historical element.

Nice score! I definitely plan on adding proximity bonuses 😎

Thank you!
Looking forward to seeing how this game of yours shakes out.

(1 edit) (+1)

I reviewed some of your previous comments, and I like the idea of the Wonders, but I would like to recommend that players build them with components.
ie:  Spend 100 Wood per Wonder Scaffolding component, and you need 5 Scaffolding, plus other similar advanced units of resources to complete the Wonder.
This would allow players to invest in "checkpoints" toward their Wonder without feeling like they're just waiting for all of the Resources to click up to 500 each.
It might also be cool for the Wonder to be 2x2 hex tiles, so players also have to plan about where they intend to build it.

Some ideas for additional Rare Building types could be the Watchtower.  Build it on Mountains (or maybe Hills?) and it gives you an alert right before an eruption.
And some kind of proximity building which protects adjacent tiles from fires, so long as there is also an adjorning water hex or Aqueduct.

Those are really good ideas!

- Resource "Checkpoints"
- Bigger building
- Buildings with "Special Abilities".

Adding to the idea list, will definitely consider this.

As for the protecting from fires, I first planned to add a fountain building that prevents fires from catching to the nearby tiles. It's tricky to balance because having to take care of the fires is a big part of the game. Maybe on bigger maps it would feel less OP.

Thanks

(+1)

This game is really scratching a particular itch for me.

Woha, that's a great score.

(+1)

(+1)

Not bad! 😎

(+1)

great game really got into it especially after found out i can extinguish fires then it started to made sense and that's the only bad thing can say about that without reading description I had no idea how do it and lost really fast

(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the game! For the next update I already added a tutorial for extinguishing fires! 🙏

(+1)

Amazing game!

Found very cool moment, that you can move clouds by mouse, when you hold mouse pointer to direction its moving, it will change direction - very cool idea! it would be great if clouds would be interactive too, like make it rain, using some faith.

Glad you enjoyed the game!

I love that idea. I'd like to implement more god-game mechanics, so this could be interesting. I'll think about this 😃

Hi again! Would you be interested in playtesting the next version?

Hi, sure! Will be available at itch.io?

Thanks! But the playtest is already over and the new version released 🙏

(+1)

I found one bug. When a new day starts and at the same time you open a store, the menu for choosing cards after a new day simply disappears.

I would also like it if when you press the ESC key, if the store is open, it would close instead of opening the main menu

Thanks for letting me know! The bug is already fixed in the upcoming update 💪

(+1)

Score of 5003. Was a nice game, got a little repetitive after getting all the buildings and having so many resources that I was basically just waiting for the vulcano.

That's a nice score! Thanks for the feedback.

I did add more stuff to build, very expansive one-of-a-kind buildings and more for the upcoming update. Might need to add more stuff in the future, but it definitely makes a better experience!

I like the game a lot, especially the pixel art style and the hex-based map. BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE ALL THINGS GOOD AND HOLY, MAKE THE FIRE LIGHT UP THE HEX IT IS ON! It is SO HARD to see the fire and burning hexes, especially at night.

HOW'S THIS? 😁
For the upcoming update:

(+1)

BEAUTIFUL! Thank you very much. That really helps!

(+1)

Wait for a update! I like it

(+1)

A fun little game, and the time limit imposed works really well!

(+1)

I think this would go hard as a full fledged game. W Game fr fr

🤩

(+1)

Ok, here's my 2 cents. Right now the volcano is just an annoyance, but it has so much potential if you crank it up, make it much more devastating and revolve the game-play into a loop around dying from it. In my first play-through I did not realize I can extinguish the fires, yet, I lasted quite a while, I picked strategic positions and converted land, managed to scrape for some holy points towards the end. I actually expected the holy points shop will be permanent bonuses, to help me when I face the volcano in my next life and was disappointment that it bought cards I do not need. My second play-through, I did not lose even one cell to fire, since being aware of the mechanic.... It was an entirely different game, my argument being, a worse one!

(2 edits)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

I did actually make the fires more devastating for the upcoming update, but I probably need to do more playtesting.

I actually find it interesting you managed to avoid the fires without extinguishing them (I added a prompt/tutorial for that btw). It's a mix of pure rng and smart thinking.

For the shop, I added more cards, as well as a Wonder type card that can be used to build a one of a kind building.

Aside from amping up the fires/volcano, do you have any other suggestions on how to make the game more interesting or challenging?

the game art is good and attracted me to play a few days

That's awesome! Let me know if you have any feedback 😁

(+1)

i feel a bit bored after used to clicking on fire, building things i need. I'm not a pro on game design, but some random event may make player have more things to do. Overall, it a good game from a game jam in few days 😀

Random events are a good idea!

I'll def think about maybe making the fire less forgiving.

And more stuff to do!

Thanks

(+1)

great game.

Glad to hear. Let me know if you have any feedback!

(+1)

nice game loop.

Awesome. Do you have any feedback / suggestions on how to improve the game? :)

(+1)

Yes, but I would not know if it aligns with your direction for the game.

I'm open to hearing any feedback or suggestions 😎

we can chat on Bluesky if you'd like. my profile: https://bsky.app/profile/bokuh.bsky.social

(+1)

really lovely game!! had me play twice just because it was so relaxing (despite certain volcanic activity). very polished experience with a whole lot of potential :)) but at the same time, its already pretty whole

Thanks for the kind words! I want to further develop it, but I think it needs a bit more depth for that. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Well, the game is good, but I think it would be fun to make more items in Faith shop. Also it would be great to make Volcano Meter down upgrade in the shop. For me around 500 faith is pretty suitable for this thing

(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

For the upcoming update, I already added more cards to the shop (new cards as well!).

As for the Volcano, I plan on adding a UI that allows spending resources to delay the final eruption.

it made my computer freeze

(+1)

That sucks, sorry it happened. Were you playing on the browser?

(1 edit)

Perhaps I am missing something, but the volcano nearly immediately destroyed all my buildings rendering me income-less and unable to play.  Perhaps that's the point?

edit: i am a dumby and missed that you click fires to put them out

(1 edit)

You are not dumb! That's on me for not making a tutorial / prompt for extinguishing fires, due to not prioritizing that enough during the jam.

I already remedied this issue in the upcoming update, as you can see here :)

Thanks for playing, and let me know if you have any feedback!

(+1)

4578, no idea if that's good or bad. A few suggestions for the game would be simply special cards/buildings, you could make some that increase/decrease the frequency of the fire (like a christian church for the "wrath of the gods"), you get the idea. There could be cards that are bound to eachother (so if one burns the other will burn too), and many other options. Apart that you could put different time categories, so you could choose if you want a long lasting or short game. You could add a leaderboard to each category, incouraging players to try different playstyles. I don't know, I'm just brainstroming. I didn't see any inherent flaws with the game, so I think you should just expand and add content.

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

That's a great idea with the special buildings, and the bound buildings too! I thought about adding a fountain that prevents or slows down fire in neighboring tiles.

I also thought about adding bless cards which will cause rain that extinguishes fires for some time, and other buffs.

A game length category is definitely something I thought about, but I wasn't sure how that will affect the score. Good thinking with having different score categories.

It's cool btw, all feedback and ideas help shape the game!

(+1)

5041 on my first game! Sad to just watch it all burn at the end =(

That's a great score! Sorry about that haha

Do you have any suggestions on how the make it less bitter?

(+1)

I found it sad as well, but I think that's appropriate. It's hard to see the destruction of an entire city and much of its populace as anything other than tragic.

For sure in that aspect. I was looking at it more gameplay-wise. If there was meta/post match progression for example, you might look forward to that and care less about your hard working burning off.

Just a thought 🙂

(+1)

Oh for sure a post match progression system would be cool and add to the replay-ability. Whether it be upgraded cards to add to the deck, or the options to choose new biomes or tile skins. Probably the easiest and least effort option tho it to make a 2x speed or even 5x speed that's unlockable after the first run

(+1)

thats such a good idea

(+1)

3451 points first run
